The professional nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive care in an ambulatory setting for patients in Adult Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities include assessment of physical and psychosocial needs, patient education, and the administration of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and blood products. The nurse evaluates the patient’s response to interventions and implements appropriate changes and also assists in symptom management, coordination of internal and external resources, triaging unexpected patient visits and facilitating communication between all members of the health care team. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Hospital ’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
