Provides skilled, creative nursing care to a caseload of patients within an assigned unit of the hospital; actively participates as a member of the health care team; and supervises care given by Licensed Practical Nurses and non-licensed personnel. Essential Functions: Serves as a provider of care for a caseload of patients by utilizing the nursing process in collaboration with other members of the health care team Effectively interacts with nursing staff and other staff to coordinate and promote continuity of the patient's care In the course of providing direct patient care, will be accountable for: ensuring documentation of all aspects of care as per hospital and unit guidelines; demonstrating excellent technical skills and judgment; administering medication, IVs and treatments safely; maintaining patient safety, comfort, and cleanliness; and transcribing and implementing physician orders accurately. Must demonstrate self-direction and professionalism by identifying areas of needed professional development skill and participating in educational activities, using the expertise of the unit nursing staff and the supervisory staff in dealing with patient problems, participating in unit meetings, and being reliable and accountable on scheduled work days. Will be accountable for promoting the corporate philosophy of service excellence and by effectively relating with patients, their families, visitors, nursing staff members, and members of other disciplines and departments. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
